Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Community Corner
Expand your mind. Engage your world.
That’s the focus of the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery (FcMOD). The $25 million dollar state-of-the-art museum opened only two short years ago, but its history extends much further than that. The Museum of Discovery is the combination of the Fort Collins Museum, which opened in 1941, and the Discovery Science Center, founded in 1989. The combined museum dedicates itself to teaching visitors about the local history and culture of Fort Collins as well as science and technology.
The FcMOD provides an exceptional visitor experience through hands-on learning and engaging programming designed to unite science and culture in thought-provoking ways. Using programs like The History Effect, which focuses on quirky goings-on of the past and their impact on the present, and Hands-On Learning with Live Animals, which helps children discover more about the animal kingdom, the museum makes learning fun and brings history, culture, and science to life.
A couple of the most popular experiences are the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater and the Music Garage. Through the Digital Dome, visitors have the opportunity to journey through the nearly inexhaustible supply of stars in the night sky and discover the most mysterious and beautiful sights in the universe on a gigantic 35-foot diameter screen. Children can also visit the Music Garage to have a hands-on experience learning, playing, and having fun making their own music!
