Project C.U.R.E: Delivering Health & Hope to the World
January 30, 2015
Health and wellness across the globe have been important focuses for all of us this year, particularly with the Ebola outbreak. There is a huge need to combat the spread of diseases and arm doctors and nurses with life-saving supplies. Thankfully, there are organizations like Project C.U.R.E. to do just that.
Project C.U.R.E. was founded in 1987 by James Jackson after he visited a small health clinic near Rio de Janeiro and found that patients were often turned away due to a lack of basic medical supplies. In 30 days, he collected $250,000 worth of medical supplies and shipped it to Brazil, sparking the beginning of Project C.U.R.E.
Now led by Dr. Doug Jackson, the organization has 5 distribution centers across the U.S., including Denver, Colorado. From these locations, two to three semi-truck trailer-sized containers of life-saving supplies and aid leave Project C.U.R.E.’s warehouses every week. In 2013, $53 million of medical equipment and supplies reached 40 countries, changing the lives of local men, women and children and providing hope for their doctors and communities.
The organization uses many avenues to deliver health and hope to the world through their C.U.R.E cargo deliveries, Kits for Kids which contain basic medicine cabinet supplies for children, and philanthrotravel experiences. We’re proud to be involved with Project C.U.R.E., and have participated in several volunteer events. Last summer, 13 associates volunteered to sort and pack supplies at the Denver location.
Additionally, Dr. Jackson previously hosted a webinar in partnership with our Director of Philanthropic Services discussing some of their philanthrotravel experiences. If you’re interested, view a copy of the philanthrotravel presentation.
